Three notes, in full
Two wellheads on this campo, which was common: the large campi had several, each serving its own cistern. The volume of a cistern was calculated on the area of pavement that fed it, and the campo was slightly inclined towards the corner gratings, which is why Venetian campi are never quite flat.

The narrowest in Venice: fifty-three centimetres at the tightest point, less than a standard doorway, so that one goes through sideways and in single file. Some maps leave it out, so thin is it.

Behind the high altar hang four bones more than a metre long: by tradition those of the dragon laid low by St Donatus. Sources differ on the fourth piece, a vertebra for some, a tooth for others, but agree on the essential: they are almost certainly whale bones.

Who makes it
La Serenissimap is made by a team of Venice enthusiasts, as taken with the great history that changed the face of the world as with the small anecdotes, the lives of its inhabitants of every condition, its incomparable monuments, its food, its culture. History, churches, palazzi, great figures, bridges, canals, addresses where you run into Venetians, every aspect of the city, gathered in one place and read as you go.
The map grows regularly and every update reaches you: buy it once, for life, and it will keep growing.
What is it
La Serenissimap is a detailed map of Venice, a heritage map of the city and its lagoon rather than a street plan. It covers all six sestieri of Venice : San Marco, Castello, Cannaregio, Dorsoduro, San Polo and Santa Croce, as well as the lagoon islands: Murano, Burano, Torcello, the Lido, Sant'Erasmo, Pellestrina, Chioggia and many others. The map lists palaces and in particular every one along the Grand Canal, every parish church and basilica, the most interesting among the bridges that link the city, hidden campi, historic botteghe, gardens, canals... Each point carries a concise, sourced note: who built it, when, why it matters, key figures, anecdotes...
The Flag of Saint Mark, banner of the Republic of Venice. The winged lion holds the open book bearing PAX TIBI MARCE EVANGELISTA MEVS, the words the angel spoke to the Evangelist in the lagoon. The six tails represent the six sestieri. Red and gold were inherited from the Byzantine Empire. The original of this version, made under Doge Domenico Contarini (1659-1675), is kept at the Museo Correr.
